Many of you may already be familiar with the concepts explained within âThe Secretâ, having already read or seen the movie/book by the same title. However, for those of you who havenât, here is a brief summary.
The concept âThe Secretâ is based around, effectively explains our ability to influence other elements within the âuniverseâ and therefore our surroundingâs, based on the premise that we ALL share common energy and are therefore part of the same system as it were.
Effectively, our thoughts have a profound effect on what and who we bring into our lives. Armed with this knowledge, one is able to leverage this concept, in order to attract the things we want into our lives. It also offers somewhat of an explanation for why we inadvertently attract negative elements into our lives also.
While the book was largely well received since its publication, I have seen a huge amount of criticism, which is unfortunate, as it contains some extremely valid tools and concepts, which I believe can benefit you greatly. For this reason, these amazing techniques arenât being utilised anywhere near as much as they should. Even for those open minded enough to engage, they sadly arenât utilising it in the correct way â" so arenât gaining the full benefit, soon become discouraged and give up on the ideas all together.
Unfortunately, part of the reason these teaching are misunderstood are because the book has taken centuries old concepts and attempted to have them appeal to a mainstream audience â" distilling the key message heavily in the process. While at the same time losing any semblance of practicality, or indeed accountability, in favour of a more magical and mystical approach.
As lets face it, when times get tough and people are strugging, seemingly unable to gain traction on their own lives â" losing confidence in their OWN ability, what do they most often look to? More often than not it will be religion and their underlying faith. Even for those of a non-religious disposition, they will look towards some other type of spirituality, or some external factor to place their hope within⦠A greater presence, the âuniverseâ, magic and the mystical, or simply luck and destiny.
The concepts from the book are in fact nothing new, they have been around for centuries and commonly referred to as âThe Law of Attractionâ, or âManifestingâ.
âThe Secretâ, while feeding into that underlying belief we all have of something greater than US, or hope if you will â" However, doesnât really take into account how the human mind works on a more practical level, even though this is a fundamental factor in why it actually works.
The method explained in the book, in order to manifest something into your life, you simply âthinkâ about it, imagine it clearly, wish for it and envisage yourself having it already â" attempting to feel and think as though you already did. That feeling of happiness, success, comfort and elation. Then forget all about it, do not worry and it shall appear in your life! Quite literally, put faith in the process that whatever it is you wish for, will indeed materialise.
The comparison is drawn with a gift catalogue from the universe, where you can literally pick whatever it is you desire, wish for it, believe you have it already, then donât give it another thought or worry â" and effectively, it will be so. You just need to have complete faith and belief in the system.
Where criticism comes in largely, is from the blame associated on NOT acquiring these things, squarely on the individual wishing for them. If only they had believed more deeply, or wished a little harder etc. This often leads to frustration, resentment and giving up all together â" not to mention, further dissapointment.
However, there are some very useful concepts, such as practicing GRATITUDEÂ and making that a part of your life every single day.
I fully endorse this, no matter how difficult a time youâre having, there are ALWAYS some things to be thankful for, no matter how small. Itâs important to be appreciative, to see your life through the eyes of abundance and positivity â" even though the reality may very well be quite different.
Why do I suggest this? Well lets play out the opposite scenario â" you view your life as awful, terrible things always happen to you, you have NOTHING to be thankful for. You view your life through the mindset of scarcity and fear!
How do you think this will make you feel? Are you likely to want to get out of bed in the morning? Will you be a productive, motivated person? Will these thoughts actually serve you well, or will they be self limiting?
The truth is, after a while of this, I doubt very much you can even operate on the most basic level â" let alone excel and push for a happy, successful and fulfilling life. In effect, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Itâs an extremely basic concept, but sadly most people donât actively practice it and maintain it in their focus.
Going forward, try to make practicing gratitude part of your daily routine. Potentially upon waking and last thing at night â" giving thanks for everything thats good in your life. Itâs something you can easily do while you meditate, stretch, or train and will fill you full of positive energy. For those of you who are skeptical, you donât need to be a âcrazy hippyâ to believe in this, it simply makes sense if you think about it. Think of it like a RESET button each day, clearing away the negativity that may have built up.
So what is the secret to âThe Secretâ? â" Well thats simple, itâs ACTION!
The concepts shared within the book and in the law of attraction are all true â" YES, you can have anything and you can have the life you want (within reason!).
YES, once you have determined what it is you desire, you should have faith you will get it, more over, you should practice believing you already have it! Imagine your thoughts upon reaching your goal, what will it feel like, what effect it will have on you.
But then you MUST take action, this is the crucial element that is missing and almost everyone seems to overlook!
Let me explain â" coming from a place of abundence, wishing for something and practicing how you might feel once you receive it, as though you already have, well it has several benefits.
Where our minds go, our body follows. This neednât be viewed as magical or mystical, itâs simply our practical reality. Think of a time you rode a motorbike or push bike, you were by the side of one pavement wishing to do a u-turn, to face the opposite direction by the other pavement. Well if your thoughts are on the gutter and so you look down to it, it is almost guaranteed where you will end up! In effect, you ended up with the very thing you feared. Conversely, if you angle your head and confidently look down the street behind you, facing the direction you wish to go over your shoulder â" you will easily manouvre round the u-turn. Your body will simply align itself in order to make this happen. In other words, when you are fully focussed and committed towards a goal, every thing will align in order to help you achieve it.
While the mind has a profound effect on our actions, you must also remember our mind and the thoughts we have, have an affect on our feelings and emotions. But equally, our feelings and emotions have an effect on the mind. As most times you are âfeelingâ bad, very few people stop to realise its because theyâre thinking about negative, unhappy things. They simply let those negative feelings ruin their day and in turn affect their actions â" bad mood, angry, poor decisions etc. Where as they could in fact take a moment, identify this is happening, readjust their thoughts to more positive ones â" they will not only âfeelâ better from an emotional perspective, but far more likely to take better decisions and positive action.
Perhaps an article for another day, but as you say see, the exercises âThe Secretâ recommends are hugely powerful, as they control your mind. They have an effect on your thoughts and therefore your feelings â" so MUST also affect your actions and as a result, the OUTCOMES achieved as a result.
Also, coming at it from another angle⦠Our minds are âtryingâ to help us, our survival instinct if you will. When we are hungry, our minds will help us to track down food. When weâre cold, it will help seek out warmth etc.
You have to realise there is a difference between what is REALLY happening, versus OUR minds interpretation of it. Our minds are constantly filtering out âuselessâ information and emphasising information which it feels IS important to us!
So how does our mind know what is important to us and what isnât? Well itâs based upon OUR thoughts/feelings â" at a very basic level, if you are always unhappy and believe everyone is out to get you and nothing ever goes your way, well your mind will go out its way to prove that is right and seek out evidence to support that idea. In effect, when someone does something nice for you, perhaps theres some opportunity to do something enjoyable â" youâll barely notice it, as its largely been filtered out and therefore youâll miss out! How many times for example have you looked back on a situation and realised you grossly miss read things?
Conversely, if you have a let down, a set back, a negative experience â" your mind will highlight this to you. It will be emphasised and blown out of proportion. Your mind will also start tying these ânegative eventsâ together â" again, individual non-related setbacks have now been joined up and compounded, forming a negative story which reinforces your negative thoughts.
Iâm sure youâve noticed this before, for example if I were to say âred carâ â" I bet you suddenly start noticing them EVERYWHERE! It isnât that everyones suddenly rushed out and bought one, they were there all along â" you just started noticing it though.
So what else have your overlooked and missed? What other amazing opportunities for a greater, happier, more successful life have you failed to notice?
Armed with this, you can use this knowledge to your advantage. Again by utilising the concepts from âThe Secretâ you are thinking about what it is you desire, believing and imagining what its like to have this already, the feeling of success, happiness and elation, as well as that of satisfaction.
All this creates a very strong mental image, effectively telling your mind â" right, this is what I want, now focus upon, seek out and tell me any key information which is going to help me towards it.
Will this method suddenly make you a millionaire overnight, more than likely NO. However, it will make you a hell of a lot more focussed, productive and happy! You will have a far better interpretation of REALITY, one that for the most part will be infinitely more supportive towards achieving your goals.
This can and should be used in ALL areas of your life, however will also work especially well with regards training.
Without straying too far off topic, most peoples training regimes fail because they simply have the wrong mindset; theyâre not clear on what their specific goal actually is and to compound things further, they simply donât believe at a deep level that their plan of action will help get them there!
As you can likely tell, this is an extremely poor approach and inevitably will lead to minimimal results. You need a specific goal, a specific action plan and above all â" believe in that course of action, as well as belief in your own abilities of achieving it. In fact iâd go further â" you NEED to be so determined, so resolute in your mindset⦠As far as YOU are concerned, you have already reached the goal, you are simply carrying out the steps day to day, to bring this into reality. Look at any successful individual, from multi-millionaires to bodybuilding champions, they ALL had this mental approach.
It wasnât magical or mystical, just common sense, good attitude and hard, hard work!
You know what to do, I hope this helps you.
