When a professional relationship turns personal, itâs impossible to resist the law of attraction.
Alec Rowland is a high-flying lawyer in a London firm whose career is his life. He doesnât have time for relationships and his sexuality is a closely guarded secret. After picking up a cute guy on a Friday night, Alecâs world is rocked to its foundations when his one night stand shows up in the office on Monday morningâ"as the new temp on his team.
Ed Piper is desperate to prove himself in his new job. The last thing he needs is to be distracted by a crush on his boss. Itâs hard to ignore the attraction he feels, even though Alecâs a difficult bastard to work for.
Both men strive to maintain a professional relationship, but tempers fray, passions ignite, and soon theyâre both falling hard and fast. If theyâre ever going to find a way to be together, Alec needs to be honest about who he really is because Ed wonât go back in the closet for anyone.
Excerpt
His companion was still watching him, seemingly waiting for him to make his move. Alec felt irrationally irritated. This wasnât how it was supposed to go. Even though he only did it occasionally, picking up men was easy for Alec. Buying a drink was more than he usually bothered to do for the twinks he hooked up with when he was in the mood for a warm body to fuck. Alec was well aware of his own attractiveness and used it to his advantage. A crook of a finger, a tilt of his head, or even just a look was usually enough to make them come running.
But this guy didnât seem to know the rules of the game.
âStrong, silent type, huh?â He suddenly grinned at Alec, all neat white teeth and dimples. âYou could start by telling me your name. Mineâs Ed.â
âAlec.â He handed a note to the barman as he came back with their drinks. âKeep the change.â
âCheers, mate.â The barman winked as he pocketed the tip.
Edâs eyebrows lifted. âChange from a twenty? You must have money to burn.â
âSomething like that.â Alec let his gaze rake deliberately down Ed, examining him from the front this time. His arms were still folded over his chest and his T-shirt had ridden up enough to expose a feathered line of hair on his belly, leading down to a nice-looking package in obscenely tight skinny jeans. âI hope you bottom?â
Ed blinked and choked on his mouthful of rum and Coke. Alec suppressed the urge to grin, enjoying the fact that Ed had momentarily lost his cool.
âIâve been known to,â Ed replied, rallying. He licked his lips.
âGood.â Alec held his gaze, noting with satisfaction that Edâs pupils had blown wide and his lips parted as Alec looked at them. God, he had a pretty mouth. Alec lifted his glass and downed his drink. The burn of the whisky tore through him and made his nerves tingle with anticipation. He needed a good fuck; it had been too long. âDrink up, then.â
About Jay
Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England, with her husband, two children, and two cats.
She comes from a family of writers, but she always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed her by. She spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content. One day, she decided to try and write a short storyâ"just to see if she couldâ"and found it rather addictive. She hasnât stopped writing since.

Review: Thereâs something about a man in a suit thatâs sexy as hell. But a man wearing a suit in one of Jay Northcoteâs books is simply hot as fuck! Two men wearing suits?????? I think I just died and went to heaven!
I was in the mood lately for a love story without much angst, but at the same time I didnât want any cheesiness either. The Law of Attraction was exactly the right book for me to read. It has nicely written characters, men who are strong-willed and motivated, hot as sin, and there a ton of sexual tension (to the point where I was expecting the windows in that building to explode from the intensity of it all).
The relationship between Alec and Ed changes and progresses from lovers, to friends, to lovers again, and thereâs even that forbidden, naughty and totally inappropriate office sex.
Alex is a senior lawyer at his law firm, and his desire to become partner makes work his one and only priority. He is closeted at work and in his personal life, and his fatherâs disapproval stops him from being a proud, out gay man.
Alec doesnât do relationships for obvious reasons, and his only sexual experiences are one night stands with men whose names he doesnât rememberâ¦until Alecâs latest one night stand show up at the law office on Monday morning, and turns out to be the newest temp, whoâs going to be working on Alecâs team. Fateâs a bitch sometimes!
The only things similar between Ed and Alec are their career choices, the strong personalities and the desire to succeed. Alec comes from money, while Ed grew up modestly; Alecâs family is cold and distant, while Edâs is loving and supportive. Alec is closeted, while Ed is out and proud who he is. Ed wants a relationship, and he wants a relationship with Alec, but he refuses to be his dirty little secret. No matter how much he likes Alec.
I absolutely loved the fact that Ed didnât settle for less than he deserved, even if that meant being unhappy without Alec in his life. Being true to himself and acknowledging the fact that he deserves someone whoâs proud to be with him, made him a very strong character.
Alecâs frustration and anger makes him a less than desirable boss. He pushes Ed and gives him more work than one person can manage. No matter how competent. Things are tense between them and somethingâs gotta give. If thereâs a perfect solution to the sexual and emotional tension between those two, the answer is Edinburgh.
Edinburgh gives Alec and Ed the opportunity to be free and experience what it means to be out with someone without recrimination and without the fear of being discovered. Realizing what heâs missing out on makes Alec brave. Giving him the strength needed to stand up to his father and to be truthful about who he is.
There isnât much angst in this book, but it still deals with personal struggles. And that was good enough for me. Even though I usually prefer somewhat angstier books. Thereâs a beautiful HEA that will have you smiling with happiness.
So go ahead and read this, people! You'll love it!
